Logan’s Mill
Logan’s Mill, located in Brussels, Ontario, was originally built in 1915. It continued operations until 1967, when the owner retired and closed up shop. In the ensuing years, it has become abandoned and run-down; in fact, it is a safety hazard.
The community is now poised to bring this historic facility back to life as a community space celebrating the region’s early industrial history. The building shell of the Logan Mill, while suffering from 50 years of neglect and disrepair, is still in a reasonable condition due largely to its concrete construction. By replacing the roof and interior contents the Logan Mill can become a stable, secure shell for rehabilitation and new public use.
With supportive funding, the Maitland Mills Association will renovate the building and create a community site that will attract tourist who will see the history of the mills that supported the many communities in the Maitland River Watershed. As an Historical site, displays will include many salvaged of the pieces of equipment that were used in the mills of the day.
There is park land adjacent to the Mill site which offers a place for community events.
