The Future Vision
The rehabilitation of Logan’s Mill will be a culmination of several community-led exercises in Brussels, including:
- A First Impressions Community Exchange (with Watford) that earmarked the mill property and conservation area as an “under-utilized asset”;
- A Business Retention & Expansion Initiative that identified the need for more “drawing cards” to the area that will encourage greater visitor expenditures in the community;
- A Cultural Heritage Landscape Study undertaken by the University of Waterloo’s Heritage Resources Centre that underscored the importance of the mill in understanding and celebrating the region’s early industrial history;
- A recent Brussels Bright Lights Heritage Tour airing on Rediscovering Canada Television that highlights the opportunity for re-purposing and renewal of the Logan’s Mill.
Impressions of the Mill’s future
The Maitland Mill Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization through the assistance of the Ontario Historical Society. It has partnered with the Huron County Historical Society. The aims of this local organization are to promote and encourage the preservation, maintenance and enhancement of the historic, architectural and landscape heritage related to the mill in Brussels.
The rehabilitation of Logan’s Mill will expand upon these markets by creating an additional amenity experience that will continue to set Brussels apart from other small communities and draw visitors from abroad.
